FAQs

An Uptrade is an exchange to a higher-value stay.
This new exchange feature applies to weeks-owning members only, allowing them to explore more unit sizes, travel dates, and destinations.
Each unit week is assigned a Trading Power value based on resort quality (as reflected by Resort Recognition tier), unit size, travel season, demand, and the date that the unit week is deposited with Interval.
Each unit available for booking is assigned an Exchange Value also based on resort quality, unit size, travel season, and demand.
If the week you want has a higher Exchange Value than the Trading Power of your deposited week, you can Uptrade by paying the Exchange Upgrade Fee.

Exchange Value is the value of the requested unit week based on resort quality (as reflected by the Resort Recognition tier), unit size, travel season, and demand for such a unit week.

My Trading Power is the value assigned to your deposited week, based on resort quality (as reflected by the Resort Recognition tier), unit size, travel season, demand, and the date of your deposit.
A deposited week’s Trading Power does not decrease. When your deposit expires, your Trading Power for that week also expires.

This is the value assigned to your undeposited week if you were to make the deposit that day.
Once you deposit your week and it is verified, your Current Trading Power becomes My Trading Power and is locked in. Per the Deposit Lead Time chart, by depositing earlier, you will get greater value for your exchange.

Until you assign your float week, its Trading Power cannot be determined.
Once your float week has been assigned by your home resort, you will see your Current Trading Power, which is the value of your assigned week it if were deposited today.
Prior to that, the Deposit Trading Power Tool can help you determine the current trading power of the week you’re planning to deposit.

Yes. The timing of your deposit can impact your Trading Power. Depositing your week earlier typically results in higher Trading Power, which may give you greater flexibility when planning your exchange.

You have two options for viewing the Exchange Value for a specific destination:

  1. Search for an available exchange vacation: In the search results, you will be able to see the Exchange Value required to book into that week. In some cases, you may see a range of Exchange Values listed when looking at available exchange units.

This will happen when there are different exchange options available at the resort, such as:

• Multiple available dates: If you specify a particular date in your search or only choose a month and year and there are units available for multiple check-in dates, you will see the Exchange Value required to exchange into each of those available dates.
• Multiple available unit types: If you do not specify unit type in your search, then you may see multiple unit types in your search results (e.g., a studio or a 2-bedroom).

The Exchange Value required to exchange into each of those units will be listed and may vary depending on the unit size even if other factors, such as travel dates, remain the same.

Use the Trading Power Reference Chart: The Trading Power Reference Chart can assist with determining the Trading Power you will need to get the exchange you want.

This is the fee that you will be charged when you Uptrade to a week with an Exchange Value that is +3 or more than your Trading power. The fee varies based on the difference between your Trading Power and the Exchange Value of the unit you would like to book.
The Exchange Upgrade Fee will be listed up front and charged once you confirm an instant confirmation. If you place a pending request, an Exchange Upgrade Fee will be charged if you indicate that you are willing to Uptrade and a match is found with an Exchange Value +3 or more than your Trading Power.

Previously, you could only see comparable stays in your search results—and larger units, if available. With the ability to make an Uptrade, you now have access to a broader range of vacation options than before.

Yes. An exchange into a week with an Exchange Value higher than your Trading Power is an Uptrade and may be done with the payment of an Upgrade Exchange Fee.
An Uptrade of +2 or less does not require an Exchange Upgrade Fee.

No. Flexchange has not changed. Flexchange will still allow you to confirm an exchange 30 days to 24 hours before check-in. A confirmation made through Flexchange does not incur an Exchange Upgrade Fee. Higher-value stays confirmed through Flexchange cannot be used for increased Trading Power on a subsequent retrade or E-Plus retrade.
Travel Tip: Flexchange can be a great opportunity, but it’s best for last-minute escapes or those who are flexible about where they vacation. You will have a much better chance of getting the vacation you actually want by making an Uptrade.

You can exchange for that week without paying an Exchange Upgrade Fee. The difference between the Trading Power and Exchange Value will not be refunded or carried forward.

Wherever you prefer to exchange: intervalworld.com, the Interval International To Go app, or by calling Member Services. You may also reach out to your local office: https://www.intervalworld.com/web/cs?a=60&p=offices
When searching online or in the app, available Uptrades will appear in your search results alongside comparable exchange inventory. The Exchange Value of each available stay will be clearly listed.

No, you can only Uptrade when booking a full week.

No, this option is not available when exchanging using a Certificate.

No. All bookings are subject to availability.

Yes. Once a week has been deposited, verified, and the Trading Power assigned, that Trading Power remains fixed for the life of the deposit.

If the week was relinquished and confirmation issued, the cancellation is subject to Interval’s exchange cancellation policy. Depending on timing of the cancellation, the member may request alternative accommodation.

No, Uptrade is an exchange feature for weeks owners that allows them to see additional availability and upgrade to higher-value vacations with an Exchange Upgrade Fee.
Points owners can exchange to any stay for which they have sufficient points.

If available, larger unit sizes will appear in your search results.
If the Exchange Value of the larger unit you want is +3 or more than your Trading Power, you can Uptrade to that stay with the payment of an Exchange Upgrade Fee.
However, if the value difference is within +2 or less, there’s no fee regardless of unit size.
Previously, Unit-Size Upgrade only allowed members to exchange to a larger accommodation, when available.
Now that you can Uptrade to higher-value stays, you can explore more resorts, travel dates, destinations, and—of course—unit sizes.
Being able to Uptrade expands your available upgrade options beyond unit size.
Travel Tip: If the unit size you want does not appear in your current search results, place a request. You can indicate the minimum unit size you are willing to accept and how much of an Uptrade you would be willing to make.

You were confirmed to a week that satisfied your request.
If you were not charged an Exchange Upgrade Fee, that means the Exchange Value of the week you were confirmed to was within +2 of the Trading Power of the week you relinquished. If you were confirmed to a Flexchange week, you would not pay an Exchange Upgrade Fee either.
In other words, you got the vacation you wanted without having to Uptrade.

The Unit-Size Upgrade selection has been removed. The credit card you entered to pay for the Unit-Size Upgrade will no longer be associated with the request. Unless modified, automatic matches will be limited to those within +2 of your Trading Power. If a potential match with a higher Exchange Upgrade Fee is found, you will be contacted by Member Services. You can modify your request to indicate the minimum unit size you are willing to accept and how much of an Uptrade you would be willing to make.

No, Uptrades are not available for Getaways.

Only if it is an Uptrade.
If your E-Plus retrade is for a unit with a higher Exchange Value than the Trading Power of your existing confirmation, then it is an Uptrade and an Exchange Upgrade Fee applies.
Thereafter, the same concept would apply to any subsequent E-Plus retrade. The highest Exchange Value of the retrades made will be used as your Trading Power.
E-Plus retrades made within the Flexchange window (30 days before check-in) are not subject to Exchange Upgrade Fees regardless of Exchange Value.

Trading Power is assigned and displayed after the week has been deposited and verified.
Before you deposit, you will be able to see your Current Trading Power. This is the value of your week were you to deposit it today. You will continue to see Current Trading Power until your deposit has been verified.
If you own a float week, you will see Trading Power: Unassigned. Your Trading Power cannot be determined until your week has been assigned by your home resort. Prior to that, the Deposit Trading Power Tool can help you determine the Current Trading Power of the week you’re planning to deposit.

Yes. Weeks deposited before the launch of Uptrade will be evaluated and assigned a Trading Power using the same criteria as weeks deposited after the launch.

While there is no membership level-specific discount at this time, the ability to see your Trading Power, compare it to Exchange Values, and Uptrade to higher-value stays creates an improved exchange access for all weeks-owning members.
You will be notified if such discounts become available in the future.
