It’s well known that the best way to secure your next great resort vacation is by placing an exchange request as early as possible.
But understanding what happens after you place that request is important, too — and can provide a definite advantage when it comes to scoring your ideal accommodations.
We Just Called to Say …
To help facilitate a successful exchange, the No. 1 thing you can do is answer your phone when Interval calls. Once your request is in the system, customer service representatives may call you (at your phone number on file) with important status updates, including resort advisements or alternate matches.
Resort Advisements
Resort advisements can be any additional information you need to know before confirming your exchange. Some examples include:
- For points users, the final number of points required to book
- If your requested resort is undergoing certain construction
- If an all-inclusive fee is required
Alternate Matches
An exact match — dates, resort, unit size — to your initial exchange request triggers an email with your confirmation. But if a potential alternate match becomes available, you’ll receive a phone call (members in the United States and Canada will receive an email with this information, too, but the phone call can provide much quicker results!). An alternate match will be for the same dates, but perhaps:
And if you speak with a customer service agent, you can explain further what you’re looking for and customize your request even more.
Keep in mind that alternate matches are only held for 24 hours, so if you don’t answer, you may never hear about what could become your next favorite vacation spot.
The bottom line is that these status update calls are made to help you make the most of your exchange request. Unfortunately, some 90 percent of them go unanswered every day, so many members aren’t receiving the advisements or learning about potential alternate accommodations.
